A traveller by profession: I worked in Africa, Asia and Latin America since 80's as a researchers and development worker. As a user I got to know many aspects of the hotel industry. Early 2003 I came across a beautiful eighteenth-century farming estate. It is situated near glorious Monsaraz, in Alentejo. In my opinion one of Portugal's prettiest, yet unspoiled regions. A year later as the new owner I could start to design a small boutique hotel.
Architecture and interior design has always been my passion. So I wanted to develop something really charming, based on all my good and bad experiences. Pure beauty of the building, minimalist in decoration, rich in comfort but not overdone, good attendance, fresh good quality food, friendly and personal atmosphere, privacy, tranquillity and cleanliness, beautiful garden, those are qualities I incorporated! First years of designing, recovering, planning with my than 14 years old son Ruben was a fantastic experience. Monte Saraz has been restored to its original state, offering repose and quality during your stay, provided in comfortable, separate farmhouses or in suites located in the main building.
I am quite happy: my guests find it a real oasis of serenity.

In order to avoid fraud, only make prepayments (reservations or deposits) using a credit card (or any other card that does not require a PIN number for online purchases) or PayPal. Never make an advanced payment using cash, checks, money orders or bank transfers. Learn why. 
For Monte Saraz, a deposit of 1 nights stay is required upon reserving for up to three nights. We will not charge if cancelled at least 7 days in advance. If cancelled within 7 days, one night will be charged. In case of no-show, full amount of stay will be charged. Reduction of stay if not communicated upon arrival will be fully charged.
For a longer period we will require a deposit of 30% of the total sum. We will not charge if cancelled within 14 days in advance. If cancelled within 14 days, 30% of the total sum will be charged. In case of no-show, full amount of stay will be charged. Reduction of stay if not communicated upon arrival will be fully charged.
We require either a credit card or a deposit guarantee to secure a booking.
Credit card is only to secure booking, payment is made by cash, if client is from abroad.
